A few more studies

I should have finished Sebbie and friends to share soon, but in the mean time, a few more little studies.

Studio light

I've been contemplating moving--a move that would require me to leave my studio I love so much. It's rather contemplating in the abstract: nothing's for sure, I may still be exactly where I am now in five years. And while I certainly won't be leaving tomorrow, thinking about the separation has caused me to look at the parts of the studio I love with new eyes. And so in the pauses of the day I have been contemplating interiors, in the form of little 8x8" studies. So here are two: one studio kitchen, and one entry. It's all about the light.

Contemplating evenings

I've been spending my evenings toying with landscapes. In the summer, with the long days, I can work on my still lives by natural light late into the evenings, but not so this time of year. To keep myself busy I've been painting landscapes in the evening, a few studies of dusk, a few studies of other painters' trees (in the case of the bottom two paintings, Marion Wachtel and Stephan Kolesnikov, respectively). Nothing special, just small pieces, a break from the day's still lives.

These babies are all dressed up and off to Lotton Gallery in search of new homes. Go visit them in Chicago!

Tango lessons

The latest Sebbie is off the easel, Tango Lessons--it was a fun one to paint, I could practice the steps between brushstrokes.

And in other news, some of my larger landscapes that have been hiding in the corner of the studio for ages are finally headed out on the town. They can be found at the New Art Center's satellite gallery at the Brookline Bank at 323 Walnut St, Newtonville, MA. Stop by and visit them if you're in the area.

Abandoned

"Art is never finished, only abandoned." Leonardo da Vinci. (I could have sworn someone else said that, but the internet would have me believe it was Leonardo, so I'm going with it--the internet's always right, surely?) At any rate, I've decided to call this painting abandoned, or, that is, finished. We'll see how I feel about it in the morning. I would dearly like to be done with it, but I left the set up in place, which is never a good sign where actually being finished with something is involved. It's called "Delicious Monster", by the way. Because that's the awesome name of a plant, and although this is in no way a plant, I felt this was a delicious mess of a monstrous thing to try to paint, and I wanted to steal the plant's name and use it for a painting. So there. Also, I apologize for the quality of the photograph--during a bout of apparent madness this summer I hid my tripod from myself and despite tearing up a good portion of the studio, I have yet to find it.
